SCE Charge Ready Home Program
Southern California Edison's Charge Ready Home program helps eligible residents cover up to 100% of the cost of an electrical panel upgrade — the key step to charging an electric vehicle at home. We'll help you find out if you qualify and get your application started.
Most older homes have electrical panels under 200 amps — not enough capacity to add a Level 2 EV charger. SCE's Charge Ready Home program pays qualifying households a rebate to have a licensed electrician install a new 200-amp panel and a dedicated 240-volt circuit, so your home is ready for fast, convenient EV charging.
A licensed contractor replaces your outdated electrical panel with a safe, code-compliant 200-amp panel — typically done in a single day.
A new 240-volt outlet is installed within 25 feet of your off-street parking, ready for a Level 2 charger that can fully charge overnight.
Income-qualified households can get 100% of costs covered up to $4,200. Residents of designated communities can get 50% covered up to $2,100.
There are two ways to qualify for a Charge Ready Home rebate:
Up to $4,200
You qualify if either of these is true:
Up to $2,100
You do not need to own an EV yet — this program gets your home ready first.
Old, overloaded panels are a leading cause of electrical fires. A new panel dramatically reduces the risk.
Modern panels run more efficiently, and charging an EV at home overnight costs far less than public charging or gas.
A 200-amp, EV-ready home is a real selling point — and gives you capacity for future appliances and additions.
A Level 2 charger adds roughly 25 miles of range per hour — wake up to a full battery every morning.

A licensed electrical contractor from the program's network assesses your panel and handles the paperwork.
Your panel is upgraded — typically in 6–8 hours — with all permits and inspections handled.
The rebate is paid electronically to your contractor or mailed directly to you.
